One of the most important concerns is a good foundation. First of all, it must be stable enough; secondly, the sub-foundation must have good water permeability . In this way you avoid that over time, for example, cracks would appear in the stones due to frost.

When installing cobblestones or tiles, be sure to provide an elastic joint or expansion joint.

In fact, depending on the type of stone, natural stone tiles or cobblestones can expand or contract at very high or low temperatures. So with an expansion joint between the cobblestones and the tiles, you give the stones important room to move.

It goes without saying that a road or a driveway is taxed more than a footpath or a terrace. Therefore, the minimum thickness also differs depending on the pavement: on a footpath or a terrace , the stone is at least 2 cm thick, on a driveway at least 5 cm, and on a road with heavy transport at least 8 cm.
